Haylage is grass that has been cut and allowed to dry out in the
field until it has a dry matter of 50-60%.It is raked and baled
then immediately wrapped in plastic. A natural fermentation process
takes place over a period of weeks which preserves the grass and
its nutrients resulting in a dust free forage that is low in mould
spores ,sweet smelling and highly palatable.
Haylage has a higher moisture content than hay but less than
that of silage or baleage
Silver Field Haylage is made from special blends of low
endophyte ryegrasses that are mown with a mower conditioner ,
allowed to wilt and then baled into round bales and wrapped
immediately in 8 layers of plastic. To ensure the ensiling
process is acheived to its full potential we add an inoculant
at the time of baling that is a mixture of proven beneficial
bacteria and enzymes. This ensures a stable product that is high in
fibre and highly palatable for stock.
Silver Field Haylage has the round bales then repacked
through a packing machine into convenient 20 kg bags that are an
ideal size to handle without the need for
machinery.
