What is Lucerne?
Lucerne is legume that has been cut and allowed to dry out in
the field until it has a dry matter of 40-50%.It is raked and baled
then immediately wrapped in plastic. A natural fermentation process
takes place over a period of weeks which preserves the plant and
its nutrients resulting in a dust free forage that is low in mould
spores, sweet smelling and highly palatable.
Lucerne haylage has a higher moisture content than hay but
less than that of silage or baleage.
